The Humor Interview Project

As you can probably gather from the title, I have an announcement: I’m shifting the direction of this blog to something new. Whether this is a temporary change or not, I hope I can keep creating engaging humor and psychology-related content.

A Quick Reflection

Last year I learned the phrases “tempus fugit”, a Latin phrase which translates to “time flies.” And boy, it sure does! As summer break kicked into gear, I suddenly hit the realization that this project is now over 2 years old. Ever since my first article in February 2022, I’ve largely stuck to the formula of researching and creating articles for this blog. However, I’ve always thought of changing this format. Those of you who have read my earlier articles may have noticed that I’ve come to animate my thumbnails less and less. This is because I believe instead of thumbnails, I could branch off into a bigger animation– one that could more creatively demonstrate the importance of humor rather than a standard article. Especially with the looming storm of senior year on the horizon, I’ve decided it’s better now or never.

The Plan

Here is my plan as of yet; I will interview some friends and classmates about humor, record their responses, and animate them using Flipaclip and Procreate. The purpose of this animation is to take a more personal look at humor by showcasing the range of humor styles in my community, particularly among fellow high schoolers (the entire target audience of this blog). So far I’m planning on using the below videos, which similarly utilize interviews, as reference:

Because of the time it takes to create such an animation, I will use future articles to archive my process. Below I’ve created a general timeline of the project as well:

  • July 16: I will have completed interviews, written notes if necessary, and determined which parts of the audio to use. Compiling said audio, I will roughly storyboard what I want to animate.

  • August 16: I will have started the rough animation process and reported on any setbacks or changes made. I will also share snippets of my animation.

  • September 16: I will have completed the animations and will have started to line and color them. Although I am by no means a professional animator, I will describe the techniques I tried to use and the overall coloring/lining process.

  • October 16: I will have completed the animation.

In Conclusion…

Hopefully, I can complete this within the span of 4 months. With each new article within these 4 months, I will also be asking for your feedback on certain ideas or questions about the animation. As always, thank you for reading, and have a wonderful summer! Stay tuned for next month!
